organizationWomen in Communications, Inc. projectArticle for the associations magazine, sample copyJust ask Tasha Cole what makes her a leader and she probably will answer, Taking advantage of opportunities and making the best of every situation. Sounds simple, but it works. A senior at Florida A&M University (FAMU), Cole often finds herself in leadership positions. She has been student chapter president of the National Association of Black Journalists, student relations co-chair for the Student Government Summer Senate, and anchor/producer/reporter for the universitys weekly newsmagazine show. And that's just for starters. She also has taken an active role in leading the Tallahassee Student Chapter of Women in Communications, Inc. As last years president, Cole met the challenge of leading a chapter that combines three different schools: a predominantly white state university, a historically black university, and a community college. She established an organizational structure that added four new committees to the board, scheduled monthly committee and board meetings, and made sure that at least one officer and one committee chair represented each school. In the following interview, Cole discusses her achievements, talks about how WICI helped her, and offers some advice for other campus chapter presidents. Complete copy available upon request.
